Jerome Ersland had no reaction and said nothing as Oklahoma County District Judge Ray Elliott handed down the sentence Monday.
As the 59-year-old Ersland left the courtroom he told a reporter the sentence is "an injustice of a monumental proportion."
In May, a jury convicted Ersland of first-degree murder in the May 2009 shooting of 16-year-old Antwun Parker.
Defense attorney Irven Box said the conviction and sentence will be appealed.

The attack was a violent footnote to a gang retaliation murder trial.

"The volatility of this trial was extremely high," said Sgt. Jesus Villahermosa.

Courthouse surveillance cameras captured the speed with which the three men pushed their attack about two weeks ago.

"Their intent was absolutely - I believe exactly what he said - to kill him," Villahermosa said.

"Him" is the defendant, 20-year-old Marsele Henderson, who allegedly murdered Victor Schwenke in 2008 in retaliation for a shooting outside a sweet 16 party earlier that same night.

Henderson, who shows no outward signs of the attack, said, "My mom and dad was there, and that kind of scared me. Like it shouldn't have been able to go that far," he said.

Authorities say Henderson's trial had already been marked by gang-style violence. One witness had his car burned after testifying. Another was threatened. Then came the courthouse attack.

"May not ever end," Henderson said of the violence. "I mean, that's not a good thing to say, but you understand the decisions that go on."

"Every witness was afraid. I believe the jury was afraid, logically," said Pierce County Deputy Prosecutor Greg Greer. "It was very scary."

Jail staff had already beefed up security with three officers escorting Henderson instead of the standard two. But courthouse security only has just a three-person team to cover the entire courthouse.

Security officials say officers followed procedures perfectly to bring the attack under control. The three people seen storming the defendant on camera are all being held in jail on $150,000 bail.

Fatal Crash Captured On Dashcam

Wisconsin State Patrol Trooper David Arras won't forget witnessing a recent fatal traffic crash on Interstate 94, the crash his dashboard camera caught on tape.

But Arras, 42, of Eau Claire, a 19-year veteran, also won't soon forget his interview of the man driving the car that slammed into the rear of the large motor coach carrying members of a band. The collision killed the man's wife of 49 years.

"I asked him twice at the hospital and he said, 'I never saw your car. I saw the bus but not your squad car,' " Arras said about his interview with John Bradshaw, 75, of Eden Valley, Minn. "He just felt so bad. He knew what had happened. It was awful.

"My car had so many lights on; I don't know how he could possibly not see my car," said Arras, admitting that he wonders why Bradshaw hit the bus if he'd actually seen it. "This was a tragic accident, one that still plays in my mind daily. It's probably the worst I will ever see."

Whatever the reason, Bradshaw may have been operating the car but not "driving" it, according to Capt. Jeff Frenette of the State Patrol's Northwest Region.

"What are people doing that they don't see a stopped bus, a stopped squad car or fire truck along the road? What are they engaged in, other than driving? That's a legitimate question," Frenette said.

"There are so many things going on in vehicles now that many drivers are not driving, they're operating a vehicle of thousands of pounds at a high rate of speed," he said. "They might be talking, texting, using the cell phone, tuning the radio, looking for something in the vehicle, eating and other things. They all take away from the job of driving.

"People need to be attentive," Frenette added. "You're the one in charge of your destiny at a lot of levels."

Bradshaw and his wife, Joan Bradshaw, 76, were headed from Minnesota to Illinois. They stopped in Hudson for a bite to eat. For some unknown reason, their car stayed in the right lane as it came upon Arras' marked squad car, which was a short distance behind the motor coach he'd pulled over for speeding at 12:56 p.m. June 1.

"It was a straight stretch and level," Arras said of that section of I-94 in Dunn County, a few miles west of Eau Claire. "I couldn't have asked for a better place to stop a motor coach."

Arras had forgotten the ticket for the bus driver, so he returned to his car to print one.

"I was talking to myself in the car about forgetting the ticket and here comes Mr. Bradshaw," Arras said. "I heard a swoosh of air. It was surreal. I thought at the last minute he would swerve and miss it, like it happens out here."

Instead, the car hit the bus carrying eight passengers. The car crumpled and skipped into the adjacent eastbound lane. The Bradshaws both were wearing seat belts, likely saving Mr. Bradshaw. His wife's body was too severely injured to survive.

"People have to look forward and remember they have a vehicle that can kill somebody," Arras said.

No one has an explanation for Bradshaw's accident, nor for two other I-94 accidents in recent months in which truck drivers ran into the back of two other semis. Two people were killed.

In many accident cases, drivers are distracted. Those distractions vary, but regardless, those distractions lead to injury and deaths.

National Highway Traffic Safety Administration reports reveal distracted driving related crashes caused nearly 5,500 deaths and 450,000 injuries during 2009, according to Randy Romanski, transportation safety chief for the State Patrol.

Frenette said drivers experience a sense of driving amnesia by failing to remember covering a section of roadway.

"I think we've all had highway hypnosis, where we don't remember driving," he said. "It happens to all of us as we drive because it becomes mundane, and we think of other things in life as we operate the vehicle instead of driving it."

Highway hypnosis also is called white line fever and allows a person to drive great distances in a seemingly normal state but be mentally focused elsewhere.

"It comes down to people taking responsibility for their actions," Frenette said. "Sure, you can drive defensively, looking out for the other guy, but in order to do that you must also be paying attention to what you're doing.

"People need to think about what they are doing in their vehicles and the risk they are putting themselves in and others in on the highways," he said. "They need to ask: "How do I ensure I can get to where I want to go safely?"

Frenette said there is a "certain segment" of drivers who will not be compliant.

"The move over law and other laws don't create a zone of safety; it's just the law, and we hope motorists will comply on their own," he said, adding that too many drivers simply use their vehicles as a method of getting from one place to another without being attentive drivers.

"There is an apathy of driving, and that's hard for law enforcement to get its arms around," he said.

Warning Graphic Sectarian Syria army abusing people

Sectarian Army abuses its power. An attempted armed robbery of an Internet café in Seminole County early Tuesday left one of the suspected robbers dead and deputies combing Pine Hills for his accomplices.

Gary Bryant, 21, was one of two men who walked into the Allied Veterans Internet Café at 3030 East Semoran Boulevard about 1 a.m. and later ended up dead after a shootout with a security guard.

The Seminole County Sheriff's More..Office has since released surveillance video of the gun battle, which took place at a strip-mall business where patrons can take advantage of a loophole in state law about sweepstakes games and play casino-style games after buying Internet time.

The video shows Bryant and the other man entering the building. They immediately become involved in a conflict with a security guard.

Gunfire erupts, and the security guard fires a round and that strikes Bryant in the back as he heads for the door to exit the business.

Before leaving the scene in an older-model tan Oldsmobile, one of the robbers fires several gunshots into the business.

The Seminole Sheriff's Office said one of its investigators saw the vehicle and tried to stop it, but the driver sped off.

Shortly afterward, deputies said the vehicle arrived at a Value Inn on Clarcona-Ocoee Road near U.S. Highway 441, where the two other men inside the vehicle left Bryant's body.

Orange County deputies chased two men in the car, but the men fled in the vehicle — which deputies later determined was stolen — into the Pine Hills area of west Orange and ran away on foot.

The Orange County Sheriff's Office used K-9 units to try to track the two men, who remained at large Tuesday.

Bryant, meanwhile, was declared dead at a hospital.

He was on probation for robbery, according to the Seminole sheriff's office. Public records also show that he was arrested as a juvenile on charges including resisting an officer without violence, vehicle theft and robbery with a firearm. He also has been charged as an adult, including a December 2009 arrest for escape.

Details of that arrest were not immediately available Tuesday.

Internet cafés have become targets of criminals in recent years because they're known for having thousands of dollars at any given time, critics of them say.

Tuesday's incident was at least the third robbery or robbery attempt at an Internet café in Florida this year.

Trooper Indicted Over Bus Incident

A Department of Public Safety trooper has been indicted on two charges that he mistreated a passenger on a Capital Metro bus last October.

MacFarlane lost his patrol assignment after video surfaced in which he appears to be losing his temper.

Two years ago he was also indicted for disorderly conduct when he flashed his badge and his gun during a road rage incident while he was driving his own car.

DPS says they have begun the termination process for the 11-year veteran trooper. MacFarlane has been with DPS since 2000.

At least one man, a security guard, was shot. Now police are trying to identify everyone in the video to determine who was hurt, who was responsible, and who broke the law.

One man was body slammed to the ground by what appears to be a security guard. Another man was blindsided by a punch. And then, More.. just seconds later, there's a gunshot. The bullet, apparently fired by a security guard, hits another guard in the hand.

"There was a couple who were acting silly that made the situation worse than it should have been. They were fighting like they were on the street," Dowdell said.

East St. Louis Police Chief Lenzie Stewart said investigators are reviewing the video.

"The security personnel, we'll be looking to see if they violated anyone's civil rights and things of that nature," he said.

Stewart said they're also questioning whether the club and the city had enough manpower to handle this.

"Our situation is what it is with the revenue and not being able to have adequate police 24-7. But do you stop the entertainment part of it? It's a call that I can't make," he said.

Managers with Blackmon's Plaza didn't want to comment on the fight. They have since had their liquor license suspended. They'll have to meet with city officials tomorrow to see whether it will be reinstated.
We showed the video to Mayor Alvin Parks. He said the violence will be addressed and that the clubs are even offering to pay for more police.

"We're going to look at a lot of different measures here one of which will be mandatory on-duty police officers nearby and off-duties inside for certain types of concerts," Parks said.

Illinois State Police and the Department of Justice are assisting in the investigation. Scott J. Ashley, 41, of Friendship was arrested at Saturday's Pirates game and charged with four misdemeanors, including public drunkenness and resisting arrest.
The video shows two officers taking at least six swings at a man meeting Ashley's description, first Tasering him to little effect before clubbing him in the neck, head, side and legs before he is eventually cuffed on the concourse floor.
"We both feared for our safety," city detective Francis Rende wrote in a criminal complaint filed yesterday. The other officer named is Lebella, but no first name is given.
City police spokeswoman Diane Richard declined comment through an e-mail saying she had not reviewed the police reports. Police had to intervene because the man appeared to be drunk, bothered fans in his section and belligerently refused to cooperate with PNC Park staff who asked him to leave, team spokesman Brian Warecki said.
"The PNC Park staff is well trained to ensure the safety of our fans to maintain the fan-friendly environment at PNC Park for all fans and followed PNC Park procedures last night when dealing with a disruptive guest," Warecki said in a statement.
The video begins as a stocky bald man, wearing jean shorts and a red, white and blue windbreaker with "USA" on the back and front is being escorted by police down the stadium steps.
